What is ComfyUI?
ComfyUI makes a generation pipeline visible as a graph of models, conditioning, transforms, and outputs. Creators can reuse complete workflows, present a graph through App Mode, or call it through an API. Local execution, paid Comfy Cloud, and optional paid API nodes are distinct ways to run a workflow.
ComfyUI is a modular AI creation engine with a node-based graph interface for image, video, 3D, and audio workflows. Its API can connect those workflows to production pipelines.
Core capabilities
- Compose image, video, audio, 3D, and text workflows on a visual node graph
- Save reusable workflows, subgraphs, templates, and simplified App Mode interfaces
- Run locally or in Comfy Cloud and integrate workflows through API endpoints
Graphs preserve the creative process
A ComfyUI workflow records the path from source models and prompts through conditioning, sampling, masks, compositing, and media output. Workflows can be stored as JSON or recovered from supported generated files, giving teams a concrete artifact for reproducing and revising a result.

Efficient and extensible execution
The engine queues work asynchronously, reruns only changed graph segments, manages VRAM and RAM, and can offload or use quantized models. Custom nodes, partner nodes, model-path configuration, local APIs, App Mode, and a maintained workflow library provide several ways to extend or operationalize the core graph. Paid partner/API nodes call external services; local installation alone does not make a workflow fully offline.

Use cases
- 01
Build a repeatable image pipeline
Connect model loading, prompting, conditioning, sampling, upscaling, and output nodes into a graph whose parameters and execution path can be inspected, saved, and shared with the generated media.
- 02
Prototype a multimodal workflow
Combine maintained nodes and templates for image, video, audio, 3D, or text work, then adjust only the portions of the graph that need to change as models and creative requirements evolve.
- 03
Expose a controlled production tool
Wrap a sophisticated graph in App Mode for operators or invoke it through API endpoints inside a broader production pipeline without requiring every user to edit the underlying node canvas.
