What is InvenTree?

InvenTree connects the catalog of parts with the stock a team actually has and the components required for a build. Categories, suppliers, locations, and bills of materials share one inventory system. APIs and plugins let teams adapt the surrounding workflow instead of maintaining disconnected spreadsheets.

InvenTree is an open-source inventory system for tracking parts and stock. Its web interface, REST API, and plugin system help teams integrate custom inventory workflows.

Core capabilities

  • Organize parts, suppliers, and stock by location
  • Describe required sub-parts through bills of materials
  • Connect custom inventory workflows through the REST API and plugins

Parts, stock, and builds share one model

A part is the catalog definition; stock records explain what is available and where it is held. Supplier items connect purchasing references to those parts, and bills of materials describe the sub-parts needed to make another item. Together these records help teams distinguish catalog knowledge from physical availability.

Extend the inventory workflow

A Django backend exposes a web administration interface and REST API, with a Python client and plugin interface for integrations. Teams can connect external applications or add specialized behavior such as label printing without treating a generic inventory list as the whole operational system.

Use cases

  1. 01

    Control parts and warehouse stock

Group parts into useful categories, link supplier items, and check stock for a particular part or location before placing another order.

  2. 02

    Plan and complete manufacturing builds

Define a bill of materials and inspect the sub-parts and stock required for an individual build, giving purchasing and production a shared reference.

  3. 03

    Connect inventory to other tools

Use the REST API, Python client, or plugin interface to exchange inventory information with internal applications and specialized operational tools.
