What is listmonk?
listmonk packages the working parts of a mailing operation into one self-hosted application. Subscribers can belong to several lists and carry structured attributes for segmentation; reusable templates feed campaigns and transactional messages; and the operator retains control of delivery configuration, bounces, analytics, roles, and data in PostgreSQL.
listmonk is a self-hosted newsletter and mailing-list manager that runs as a standalone binary with PostgreSQL. Its dashboard and Docker setup support operating mailing lists on your own infrastructure.
Core capabilities
- Organize subscribers into opt-in lists and attribute-based segments
- Create reusable templates and send scheduled or immediate campaigns
- Send transactional messages through an API with external-recipient support
Subscriber data built for segmentation
Each subscriber has an email, name, subscription state, and arbitrary JSON attributes, and can belong to several single- or double-opt-in lists. Those attributes can be queried to form targeted segments and inserted into the messages the subscriber receives.

Campaign and transactional delivery in one service
Campaigns send reusable template content to selected lists and expose operational status and analytics. The transactional API uses preconfigured templates for event-driven messages, supports multiple lookup modes, can send to external recipients, and accepts structured data and attachments. Delivery still requires a configured SMTP service or other messaging backend; self-hosting the manager does not supply email transport by itself.

Use cases
- 01
Publish a recurring newsletter
Import or collect subscribers, organize them into lists, prepare a reusable template, schedule campaign delivery, and review views, clicks, bounces, and other campaign results.
- 02
Target a segment of an audience
Attach structured attributes to subscribers and query those values to create smaller audiences for relevant announcements, product updates, or regional communication.
- 03
Send application-triggered email
Configure a transactional template and call the API for welcome messages, order confirmations, password resets, or other events, including recipients outside the subscriber database when required.
