What is OrangeHRM?
OrangeHRM places the employee directory and the routine processes around it in one web application. Administrators maintain people, jobs, reporting lines, qualifications, roles, and configuration, while employees and supervisors use the same system for leave, time, attendance, self-service tasks and, in supported Starter releases, recruitment and performance.
OrangeHRM is an open-source human resource management system for employee records and day-to-day HR workflows. Its Starter edition supports leave, time, recruitment, and performance processes.
Core capabilities
- Maintain employee, job, organization, qualification, and reporting-line records
- Run leave, attendance, timesheet, and work-schedule processes
- Coordinate recruitment and performance in supported Starter releases, with roles and reports
Employee information tied to organizational structure
The personnel model connects employees to jobs, locations, sub-units, supervisors, qualifications, contracts, and documents. Role-based administration and employee self-service place different parts of that record in the hands of HR staff, managers, and individual employees.

Recurring HR processes around the same people
Leave entitlements, requests, calendars, attendance, work schedules, and timesheets support day-to-day workforce administration. Current Starter releases also include recruitment and performance modules, but availability should be checked against the installed version rather than assumed from the wider commercial product.

Use cases
- 01
Maintain a central employee directory
Record personal and employment information, job assignments, organizational units, supervisors, qualifications, documents, and the permissions that govern who can see or change those records.
- 02
Process leave and working time
Define leave types and entitlements, submit and approve requests, view calendars and usage, capture attendance, manage schedules, and record timesheets.
- 03
Coordinate hiring and reviews
In Starter releases that include these modules, publish vacancies, track candidates, and manage performance goals and appraisals alongside employee records.
